I was an 8 year old boy in Spokane when Mt St Helens erupted. I don't have a ton of childhood memories but watching the sky turn black in the afternoon is one of the weirdest ones I recall.
i was seven and have a clear memory of the blast stunning me out of play and watching our plate glass windows shimmy. later i became envious that Portland got so much of the ash. somehow i thought an ash covered town would be very cool.

I remember my Moses Lake kindergarten studies involving making many many many mud pies.
