Salt & Straw / PDX

The bathroom in Salt & Straw

My friend Kim Malek is just about ready to open up the brick and mortar version of her ice cream shop, Salt & Straw (a reference to how ice cream used to be made) at 2035 NE Alberta Street in Portland, Oregon.

While building out the 'scoop shop', Salt & Straw has been operating out of this adorable cart (soon to be retired and used for special events only).

Ms. Ada's postcard wall

I can't wait to check out the special touches throughout the shop.
"One thing we're particularly excited about is the bathroom. We found an entire collection of postcards to a "Ms. Ada" in the early 1900's. Resident of Portland, Ore. Our nice pal, Sarah Littlefield, scanned each one in and turned them into a wallpaper. You will soon be able to read Ms. Ada's whole story via her friend's postcards from around the world."

Salt & Straw ice cream

Oh yeah, and the main event--their delicious ice cream! They've already received tons of well-deserved press for their locally sourced, small-batch ice cream with gourmet favors like Lemon Basil Sorbet, Pear with Blue Cheese, Brown Ale with Bacon, Stumptown Coffee and many more.

And check out this awesome painting of their cart by illustrator David Hohn.
