Saturday, June 5th

There's plenty to see and do on Saturday. The current forecast is a mostly sunny day with a high of 68 degrees. That's pretty dang good for June in Seattle so hopefully you can get out and enjoy some art and nice weather.

Frost King by Heather & Ivan Morrison

A sunny day in the Puget Sound? Why not take a drive across Lake Washington and spend the afternoon making your own kite at Open Satellite? "In this make-and-take activity you will create your own cellular kites of wood and paper while learning about kites and what inspired the creation of Frost King."

Free. 11am - 2pm in the gallery. More info here.

Can't Contain Me by Tad Crawford (image via)
Showing at Patricia Cameron in conjunction with Art on the Fly

Have you ridden the Seattle Streetcar yet? Tomorrow sounds like a great day to do it. As part of Art on the Fly, "See the urban landscape of South Lake Union transformed by dance created by over 100 local, national and international artists from Switzerland, Italy, Spain & Seattle including an Ecuadoran dance by 14-foot puppets, a dream-like dance with bubble wrap and helium-filled balloons, a slo-mo parade of Butoh Geishas, an interactive game of twister (fun for kids) and much more."

Noon to 6pm. Full schedule/info here.

It's the last day to see UW MFA graduate Jacob Foran's solo show Headspace. Jacob's piece at the UW MFA show is really impressive. “So it’s not so much water he’s exploring through this work, as the armor that shields it from the atmosphere – that constant internal pressure threatening to close in. Not a bad idea for an artist in times like these.” Bond Huberman

Where: 3D4M Gallery at UW CMA, 4205 Mary Gates Memorial Drive, Seattle

I'll be down in Tacoma whooping it up at the 2010 Neddy Fellowship reception. This public event runs from 6:30 to 9pm. "Celebrate the nominees for the 2010 Neddy Artist Fellowship at this event honoring our regional artists. Meet the artists, peruse the galleries, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar, and congratulate the winning fellows."

6:30 pm: Galleries open, music begins
7:15 pm: Welcome by Stephanie A. Stebich, Director
Remarks by Rock Hushka, Curator of Contemporary & NW Art
Remarks by Margery Aronson, 2010 Neddy Artist Fellowship Selector
Presentation of the 2010 Neddy Artist Fellows by Sally Behnke
9:00pm: After party at Hotel Murano

And if I weren't at the Neddy Awards, I would totally be at NEPO 3. Klara has organized a great group of artists/performances for the 3rd iteration. Previously talked about here.

Ice-skating! image via

And of course, if you're looking for something to do tonight, I'd highly recommend checking out the New Works Festival at On The Boards. The amazing Mike Pham will be presenting his favorite ice-skating videos. Don't miss it!

Also, my folks are coming in to town for a visit so my blogging might be kind of quiet until Tuesday...
