Weekend lectures

If you haven't had your fill of art from SAM Remix, 1st Thursday and the Henry's Open House, you're in luck. Here are a couple of lectures you can catch this weekend.

Nicholas Nyland, Vesna Pavlovic

As part of SOIL's new lecture series (1st Saturday every month, 2pm), Nicholas Nyland will be giving a talk as part of his recent collaborative show with Vesna Pavlovic.

"This collaborative installation explores the ideas of travel and transformation of landscape through representation and conditions of seeing. The "Search for Landscapes" project develops around a group of found vintage slides, which depict one family's travels around the world in the 1960s. While looking into materiality and physicality of these objects, the artists are also exploring the history of travel, visual tourism, and the relationship we have to the culture and history of particular tourist sites."

Marisa C. Sánchez wrote a great essay about the show. Scroll down to read to it.

Self-Portrait by Carol Adelman

If you missed Carol Adelman's opening last week at Gage Academy (3rd floor), she'll be gallery sitting special hours this Sunday March 7, from 11am to 2pm. She'll also be giving an informal lecture around noon.
