"Abandoned and Thieves"

Mark Takamichi Miller opened up a new show in the front of Billy Howard's tonight.

Ack! I LOVE this show. I love the idea of the found photos. I love the actualization of the pieces (huge! 72" x 48") and all done in really fantastically CRAZY styles. I swear I saw marbling. You would never know it from any of the pics (go see the show!), but some totally morph into 3D (esp. the noses). There were several I wanted! It's a weird show! -- in all the best senses of the word! Its energy feels really different for Seattle -- I like that.

Stammtisch

Stammtisch is a German word that Jeff told me about. Very roughly translated to 'regulars at a tavern'. The physical table is reserved, a plaque above saying "Stammtisch". Well, this is ours. It's a nice simple table at CCs that looks out on the patio. I like it because it's got the calmest energy.
I love Smith, but I bounce around all over there. No special table. Though Dave and I do sit in the back booth/front window a lot. Depending on the season. Demi-stammitsch?

"Always something there to remind me"

People are weird!

I went to my friend Amy's 80s party last night. It was like a John Hughes movie. Though some folks were young enough to be born in the 80s and so it was a trip to watch them do their interpretation of what the 80s were. A lot of preppies. I didn't have a lot of time to prepare, so I went with the flashdance look (which was later changed up a bit a relaunched as the 'weightlifter' look -- at least in Spokane).

Rattling House

Jeffry and I went to Leo Saul Berk's talk about his piece, "Rattling House". It's currently on display at the Hedreen Gallery at the Lee Center.
The piece is a really sexy object* that looks supsended in air as if water simply stopped midflow. It's a representation of a cave that he visited in 2001. I love how the physical piece represents the volume of the water that created it in the first place. Scott Lawrimore made nice points and Leo Saul Berk gave some really good insight into the creation of the sculpture.
For more info, listen to Jen Graves' podcast.
(I really wanted to hear Gretchen Bennett's discussion at the Frye but it started 30 minutes later and we had to pick up cupcakes and get them out to Vashon Island for Mike's bday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!)
*it kept being referenced as a 'sexy object' -- which is is.

Fur-traders!

Had a fantastic time with Wendy/Patrick in town this weekend

Saturday night on Holly/Michael's deck was perfect. Folks were lighting sky lanterns, Medina had fireworks. It felt like a celebration. (But that might have been fueled by the 15+ bottles of wine.)

Sunday, had delicious lemon marscapone pancakes to fuel up for our canoe trip (which didn't really require carb-loading at all but was a good excuse to eat pancakes!).

Renting a canoe from the UW Activity Center is fast becoming my favorite summer activity. I don't know why it's taken me twelve years to catch on to it.

Great to see you Wendy, Patrick, Brandon and Wouter!

I'm FIFTY!

There are so few perfect days in any given year, but yesterday definitely qualifies! Sarah L (plus parents Larry, Julie) and I all ferried out to Roy and Mike's house on Vashon to celebrate Jeffry's 50th bday (2 months late).

The weather was gorgeous, the ferry lines were easy, the company was fantastic and as soon as we all stepped onto the property, it felt like I had been on vacation for 2 weeks.

The best mix of people all gathered to celebrate a great guy's special day!

"hello angel in the sky..."

It seems like this year (with record setting fuel prices), Seattleites have lost their resistance to The Blue Angels. Invariably, people get all growly about the mixed messages (war? gas? risk?). I think people just want to be light and breezy this year.

Yesterday, people were more like, 'Why fight it?'. Say yes to Blue Angel parties on fantastic rooftops!
